This is what I do. I sing songs, accompanied by an acoustic guitar or mandolin, and I blow into the old harmonica. I usually sing my own songs and throw in a cover for good measure, but it has to be a song that I am connected with on an emotional level.
I took to the road almost seven years ago to live the life of a travelling troubadour, a wanderer, a nomad, without a base of my own. I am searching for love and a place to call home, but it seems that the longer I travel, the harder it becomes to stay in one realm.
This is one of the covers I sometimes sing, written by Bruce Springsteen. It leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
It’s completely up to your imagination whether the song has a happy ending or whether both characters go their separate ways. It could even be that the protagonist is sitting at the bar, looking at the scenery, talking to himself and wishing he had the courage to say out loud what’s on his mind.
Love is fragile, especially when people have baggage to carry. I admire songwriters who are able to let another story unfold between the lines.
I shot the video for this year’s birthday celebration of my dear friends Petra & Ras, from “The Upstage” in Germany, a location that meanwhile is not so secret any more. I spiced it up with some pictures from my travels, so you don’t have to look at me all the time. I hope you like it.
If you know of any cool places to play, or people who organise house concerts, or acts who’d have me as their support, or maybe even a booker who would dare to take on an aging almost rock star, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
