I am delighted to make my debut in one of Cork’s finest and most iconic live venues in August: Coughlan’s Live!
According to their website, “Coughlans Live has hosted some of the finest local, national and international musicians and comedians. Songwriters like Glen Hansard, Mick Flannery, Lisa Hannigan, Sarah Jarosz, Chris Smither, Anais Mitchell and Ryley Walker. Bands like Walking On Cars, Delorentos, The Stripes, The Delines. Traditional performers like Scullion, Alan Kelly Gang and Eddi Reader, Cormac Begley…”
I’ll be opening on the 17th for the wonderful Lynda Cullen, a Wexford native currently based in the Black Forest region, who called Cork her home for a long time, before moving to Germany. She’ll be joined by Cork’s own Fintan Lucy, a household name in the city and a fine singer and writer in his own right.
Ironically, I currently reside in Co. Cork myself, just half an hour from the city, in Crosshaven. Two weeks ago, on my first visit to town, I couldn’t resist popping into Coughlan’s for a shot of Jameson’s and a look around, and I was immediately taken with the vibe: the place is smoking and rock’n’roll is oozing from the walls. The picture above was taken that night and gives you a good idea of what it is like.
This is really the first time I will be playing my songs in one of the ‘go to’ places. It’s not easy to get a foot in the door and I’m very grateful to Lynda for answering my call when I asked to fill the support slot on the night. I am determined to make my way around the country and conquer all of these places, one by one. There, I said it. Onwards!
