…you used to be so fair!
But let’s not complain about the weather now, because it’s been a good summer. I’ve done loads of ‘Folk by the Sea’ gigs here on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and with that and the help of a few good people, I managed to get the Red Van back on the road, which makes my life so much easier.
Míle buíochas to Fiachna Ó Braonáin for including “August” into the mix, when he was sitting in at ‘Folk on One‘ on RTÉ Radio 1 the week before last. He is also sitting in for two weeks at John Creedon’s slot, Mondays to Fridays from 8 to 10 pm Irish time, and it’s always a great idea to listen to his eclectic mix of great music and banter.
A big thank you to Noel Casey for spinning ‘The House With Yellow Windows’ during ‘After Midnight‘ on Monday night on 103.2 Dublin City FM, mentioning my trip to Dublin last month to pay my respect and say goodbye to Glen Hansard, and to Colum Ceolplay King for playing my version of ‘I’ll Tell Me Ma’ on his show on YourhitsradioIreland last week, also talking about my short hop to the Emerald Isle.
The journey to Glen’s funeral was my most surreal visit to Ireland ever, but you cannot be a fair weather friend only. You have to show up when times are tough. Shout-out to my brother in song Luke Clerkin and to all the buskers. I’ve seen many of you there, singing your hearts out. It was beautiful. Grá mór!
At the end of the week, I’ll be leaving my little abode here for a while. I’m travelling to Berlin to perform a couple of shows with Claudia Nentwich:
05.09. – Songs auf dem Boot, Schiffsrestaurant John Barnett, Potsdam
11.09. – Guitar Lounge, Berlin-Spandau
12.09. – House Concert, Michendorf
Hoping to see some familiar faces and looking forward to doing some work and spending some time with one of my dearest friends!
