Tales from the feverworld

01. THIS TOWN

This town’s got a vacuum
It’s sucking me dry, sucking me dry, sucking me dry
Well I lived here all my live, yeah
Sucking me dry, sucking me dry, it’s sucking me dry

Well, it used to be all steel and coal
But that’s long gone, still the skies hang low
The clouds are mostly dull and grey
Gonna pack my stuff, gonna get away

This town’s got a vacuum
It’s sucking me dry, sucking me dry, sucking me dry
Well I lived here all my live, yeah
Sucking me dry, sucking me dry, it’s sucking me dry

People out here on the street
They don’t talk, they just seem to
Take care of their dreariness
Lost in their ambitiousness

Gonna pack my wings and fly
I’m longing for a bigger piece of sky

I’m not so young anymore
Still I’m heading for a distant shore
To start all over once again
I’m tired of the same refrain

This town’s got a vacuum
It’s sucking me dry, sucking me dry, sucking me dry
Well I lived here all my live, yeah
Sucking me dry, sucking me dry, it’s sucking me dry

02 – BANRION NA FARRAIGE

Twenty-three meters from bow to stern
What lies benath is not her concern
No matter the weather she always keeps her head

Six meters wide, she’s lean and fast
Forged from steel she’s built to last
Brethren of the sea you’re in her debt

The Banrion Na Farraige, she’s is solid and true
There’s many a tempest she has been through
Steady and sure, she crosses the miles
From the mainland to the isles

Perfumed with diesel she speeds along
The drone of her engine’s a comforting song
The salty spray couresses her rusty skin

It could be 200 souls twice a day
If there’s only a few, she sails anyway
A faithful companion, a lifeline for sealocked kin

The Banrion Na Farraige, she’s solid and true
There’s many a tempest she has been through
Steady and sure, she crosses the miles
From the mainland to the isles

Over the weather the Queen holds no sway, she has no say
And when it’s time to decide if she stays or she goes
The skipper knows

The Banrion Na Farraige, she’s solid and true
There’s many a tempest she has been through
Steady and sure, she crosses the miles
From the mainland

Oh the Banrion Na Farraige, she’s solid and true
There’s many a tempest she has been through
Steady and sure, she crosses the miles
From the mainland, oh the mainland
From the mainland to the isles

03 – I WISH I WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU

You were swaying with the music
So gentle, so at ease
The hair around your shoulder
Tangled in the breeze

And I might have looked quite stupid
When you turned and looked at me
I was long lost in your soothing grace
Absentmindedly

What a sweet illusion
Your body close to mine
It will cause confusion
To fall and cross that line

Oh I wish, yes I wish
I wish I was in love with you
Oh I wish, yes I wish
I wish I was in love with you
I wish I was in love with you

Your eyes, they shine like amber
With the moon there on the rise
Your perfume steals my senses
I wish I could disguise

That I suffer from a lack of love
A love that passed the test of time
But fiction and reality
Ah, they just don’t rhyme

I register your beauty
It is plain to see
And to lie with you
Must be heavenly

Oh I wish, yes I wish
I wish I was in love with you
Oh I wish, yes I wish
I wish I was in love with you
I wish I was in love with you

04 – ANYWHERE BUT HERE

I can’t remember what love is like
This place has changed, ain’t it funny how time flies
Fading memories of you and I
You got to put a lid on your heart, sometimes

My bag is packed and I’m on my way
I’ve been trying so hard to keep the blues at bay
Don’t know the reason why I never stay
There’s got to be a place for my heart, someday

Anywhere but here
Anywhere but here
My mind is calm, facing the storm
Anywhere but here

Here on the road I see it all so clear
All my longing my regrets and my dark fears
Itching loneliness is hard to bear
There’s got to be a place for my heart, somewhere

Anywhere but here…

And from dark night into twilight
Things don’t seem so real
I open my eyes, I see the sunrise
I’m behind the wheel

Anywhere but here…

I can’t remember what love is like
You got to put a lid on your heart, sometimes

05 – SONG ABOUT A LOVE…

I wear this ring on my finger
Cause it reminds me of you
There’s a light in the window
But that car in the drive don’t belong to you

Since you left me I ain’t seen sunshine
Just the dark clouds rolling in
But the dark clouds, they won’t tell me
Where you’re going and where you’ve been

It’s a mad thing, it’s a sweet thing
When love comes sneaking up on you
But it’s a sad thing when the mood swings
And love turns around and leaves you blue

For 40 days and 40 nights now
I’ve had sadness on my heals
She’s a skinny looking wreck, I’d rather have the devil on my back
But she sure makes me feel the way it feels
Ah, somebody help me…

It’s a mad thing, it’s a sweet thing
When love comes sneaking up on you
But it’s a sad thing when the mood swings
And love turns around and leaves you blue

There’s been wind and there’s been thunder
There’s been any kind of sleet and hail and rain
Oh and sometimes I do wonder
If I ever gonna see sunshine again
If I ever see your sweet face again

06 – AND SO WILL I

It felt just like an endless summer
I got lost in your embrace
September came with different colours
I loved those freckles on your face

And time has wings
And it flies right by
And hearts will break
And so will I

Don’t know what made me lose my caution
It must have been the August wind
Your silhouette against the evening sky
Sun into moon and ’round again

And time has wings
And it flies right by
And hearts will break
And so will I

I trace your trail around this city
Trying so hard to break your spell
I scream your name in empty hallways
And throw my luck into the wishing well
Throw my luck into the wishing well
Throw my luck into the wishing well…

And love ties strings
And it make you cry
But hearts will mend
And so will I

And time has wings
And it flies right by
And hearts will mend
And so will © Martin Praetorius

07 – TRENCHES

Trenches, trenches, in these trenches,
Liveless corpses releasing deadly stenches,
Trenches like veins of cold, dark blood,
Trenches of soldiers drenched in mud

Soldiers, soldiers, Used to parade
Soldiers killed by gas, by grenade
Soldiers whose lives now put on the line
Soldiers the brave hearts, pure and divine

War, war the darkest of hours
War armies kill lives they devour
War armies gathered like cattle
War, the endless battle

Weapons, weapons. Tools of war
Weapons that bore us to the very core
Weapons that make man drop
Weapons. War. The end. Please stop!

09 – SKIN & BONE

Woke up from a fever, didn’t know what was real
Stumbled out on the street like a spinning wheel
Upside in and downside out
If you’ve been there you know what that’s about

I’m stuck in a trap can’t get out of my head
Like a fool hanging on to the things I dread
I need a potion from the medicine man
That’s gonna cure my soul and make me whole again…

You need skin & bone and a little bit of bile
The greasy grime from a bathroom tile
Just one drop can make a dead man smile
So pour me another cause it makes me feel alive

The first one tickles, makes you warm inside
The second takes you on a roller-coaster ride
The third fogs your mind, you forget what it’s for
Anything after that you want more, more, more, more, more

Of skin & bone and a little bit of bile
The greasy grime from a bathroom tile
Three hen’s teeth, snails and slugs
The concentrated juice of a bot fly bug
Just one drop can make a dead man smile
So pour me another cause it makes me feel alive

Wait a minute…

Look at me now, I’m the king of hell
Master of disaster, the devil himself
Nothing can stop me, this stuff is sublime
But my eyeball’s twitching
My teeth are itching
And somehow I get the feeling that it’s stealing my time…

Skin & bone and a little bit of bile
The greasy grime from a bathroom tile
Three hen’s teeth, snails and slugs
The concentrated juice of a bot fly bug
Just one drop can make a dead man smile
So pour me another cause it makes me feel alive

Woke up from a fever, didn’t know what was real
Stumbled out on the street like a spinning wheel
Stumbled out on the street like a spinning wheel…

10 –  NEEDS

Noise
Fatigue
My body
Feels weak

It shakes
My mind
I’m scared
And blind

Be still, be here, say nothing, don’t fear

Give, believe, surrender and dream

Drink
Eat
Laugh
And sleep

Love
Hope
Dance
And read

Give, believe, surrender and dream
Give, believe, surrender and dream
Give, believe, surrender and

Live
Breathe
Surrender
And dream

11 – HARDER TO BREATHE

I sit here with you
You sit here with me
We’ve done all the talking
Uncomfortably

It’s not a question
Of who’s wrong or right
It’s like someone pulled the trigger
And shot out the light

It’s a funny feeling
This emptiness
Someone has got to
Make a move, I guess

It’s getting harder to breathe in here
Now that the love has gone
It’s getting harder to breathe in here
Now that the love has gone
Now that the love has gone
Now that the love has gone

Which was is your way
Which way is mine
We thought we’d walk together
Till the end of time

But maybe all good things
Come to an end
It’s hard to lose you as a lover
Harder to lose you as a friend

Were there any signs
For this awkward mess
Before those tiny bits of hell
Started trickling down our happiness

12 – TALES FROM THE FEVERWORLD

I have a skull & crossbones ring
A bird on my shoulder that cannot sing
An empty chest, for the treasures I’ll find
A ship that’s entirely build in my mind
And I am going to paint me an ocean
With quicksilver waves
That float in slow motion

And I tell you tales from the feverworld
I tell you tales from the feverworld
I tell you tales…

I’ll bring a pot of gold
From the end of the rainbow
Unmeasurable time from the land of tomorrow
An ointment I copped from a wise Seminole
All for to mend the scars in your soul
And silk from the stars to dry your tears when you weep
And dreams that will keep you safe when you sleep

And I tell you tales from the feverworld…

To see you suffer ways heavy on my heart
It don’t make a difference, if we’re together, if we’re apart
You’re soul in my
As I am soul in you

I swear to you
I met the man in the moon
He blew bubbles under water in a silver lagoon
OK, I made that one up, just to see your grace
Lighten up with one smile on your face
But this one is true, I’ll love you forever
And it cuts to the bone
That we can’t be together

And I tell you tales from the feverworld…
